As travel season approaches, it’s more important than ever to stay current with policy wording updates. Even small changes can have a significant impact—new exclusions may be added, and coverage you’ve come to expect might be revised or removed. Staying informed ensures you and your clients understand how these updates affect their protection.
Why Promote the True Senior Guard Plan?
AwayCare’s True Senior Guard offers exceptional value. Clients can lock in their rate up to 9 months ahead of their departure date. The application is completed based on the client’s medical condition and age at the time of purchase—not departure. This means if a client has a birthday before their trip, purchasing early could secure a lower premium.
What’s New for the 2025–2026 Season?
As of August 1st, several updates have been made to the Senior Guard plan:
1. Application Required for All Ages
Clients of all ages must now complete an application.
2. Revised Application Wording
The box for Parkinson’s now includes Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
3. Updated Eligibility: Life Expectancy
The required life expectancy has increased from 6 months to 12 months.
4. Updated Eligibility: Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
New wording clarifies:
“Requires support with one or more activities of daily living—such as eating, dressing, personal hygiene, or transferring (e.g. getting in/out of bed or a chair)—or shows reduced ability to manage personal affairs or make independent decisions due to cognitive or functional impairments.”
5. Flexible Stability Options & Easy Adjustments
Senior Guard offers up to $5 million in emergency medical coverage for stable conditions, with customizable stability periods ranging from 7 to 365 days. The application is simple, and if a client’s health changes after applying—but they still meet eligibility—you can easily adjust the stability period to maintain coverage.
Your Expertise Matters
Clients rely on your guidance—not just to choose a policy, but to understand it. Open, two-way communication is key. Always encourage questions and confirm understanding rather than assuming clarity.
Medical applications can be challenging. Clients often need help interpreting and accurately answering health questions. This is where your role is vital—review their responses carefully, clarify uncertainties, and ensure everything is accurate before submission.
